Day 1: ATHENS – NEGOMBO

Departure from Athens and flight via a stopover to Negombo.
Day 2: NEGOMBO

Arrival in Sri Lanka. Clients will be met by our representative upon arrival and transferred to Negombo. Check in to the hotel. Dinner & overnight stay at Jetwing Lagoon (4*), Negombo or similar.
Day 3: NEGOMBO – ANURADAPURA – MICHIDALE – SIGIRIYA

After breakfast we start a short tour of the town of Negombo. Negombo - a famous fishing village north of Colombo, with a Dutch canal. The canal itself is a lively place with all the fishermen coming and going in their cheerfully painted boats. On the banks of the canal you will find many houses and churches and many species of birds, including the spectacular kingfishers and parrots. Catamaran trips to the sea and boat trips on the canal can be arranged. From November to April, there are diving facilities in this picturesque village. The streets on either side of the hotels are dotted with souvenir shops, restaurants, etc. Then, you will depart for Anuradhapura and start a city tour. Anuradhapura is the first capital of Sri Lanka from the 5th BC to the 10th AD. The ruins of 15 centuries as the capital are spread over a vast area. The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. From smaller monuments like Thuparama and Lankarama to the gigantic Jetawana Dagaba, Abhayagiriya and Ruwanweliseya and the most sacred Bo-tree, (Ficus Religious) well preserved to this day, are found here. There are statues, palace ruins, lakes, temples, shrines, alms halls, meditation centers, old statues, monasteries, pleasure gardens and a large number of other monuments are found in Anuradhapura. Then, visit Mihintale. Mihintale, which is 15 kilometers from Anuradhapura, is the "cradle of Buddhism" in Sri Lanka. Mihintale is the world's first wildlife sanctuary declared in 247 BC and is still a sanctuary. The King of Anuradhapura met the missionary Arahat Mahinda here. When you climb 1840 steps, you see Ambastale Dagaba, Maha Seya, Kantaka Chetiya, Alms Hall, Hospital, Kaludiya Pokuna, Naga Pokuna and other monuments. Day 4: SIGIRIGIA – HAPARANA – SIGIRIGIA

After breakfast we start a village walk in Habarana. Walk through the dry zone villages and rice fields and experience the traditional Sri Lankan way of life. Guests will be given fresh royal coconuts straight from the coconut tree. Experience a traditional Bullock Cart ride and a Catamaran safari (Double authentic fishing catamaran) on the picturesque Hiriwadunna Lake. Enjoy a typical village lunch at a village house. In the afternoon return to the hotel. Dinner & overnight at Camellia Resort & Spa (3*), Sigiriya or similar.
Day 5: SIGIRIGIYA – POLONARUWA – MINERIGIYA (SAFARI) – SIGIRIGIYA

After breakfast, we depart for Polonnaruwa and begin a city tour. Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to the 13th century AD. A great renaissance occurred in the country, politically, economically and socially during the reign of Kings Vijayabahu Parakramabahu and Nissankamalla of the Polonnaruwa period. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Afternoon a jeep safari in the Minneriya National Park. Minneriya National Park is a national park in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having initially been declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1938. The reason for declaring the area as a protected area is to protect the catchment area of the Minneriya Reservoir and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The tank is of historical importance, having been built by King Mahasen in the third century AD. The park is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population that inhabits the forests of the Matale, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee districts. Day 6: SIGKIRIYA – KANDY

After breakfast, climb the Sigiriya rock. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning. It is the most popular historical site in Sri Lanka. King Kassapa (477-495 AD) who moved the Capital from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya built a fortress to surround his palace, which was built on top of a 500-meter-high rock, with the necessary facilities. The palace was surrounded by an outer moat and wall and an inner - Moat and Wall, a pleasure garden, a Mirror-wall, light and dark wall paintings of a maiden, to cover the western wall and a beautiful staircase through the body of a crouching lion are some of the attractions here. The rock garden consists of caves where Buddhist Bhikkus lived and meditated. After Kassapa Sigiriya was given back to the Bhikkus. Then proceed to Kandy. Kandy, the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of the influence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka today. Day 7: KANDY – PERANDENIA – KANDY

After breakfast visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. The Royal Botanical Gardens - 147 acres in extent - began in 1374 as the pleasure gardens of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of trees and plants. Some are rare and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world. The Spice Garden and the Orchid House are popular with tourists. In the afternoon, embark on a city tour of Kandy, including the Upper Lake Drive, Market Square and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Since the 4th century AD, when the tooth of the Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka hidden by sacrilegious hands in the hair of an Orison princess, the Relic has grown in fame and sanctity in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. Considered the most valuable asset of Sri Lanka, the Temple of the Tooth Relic was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Dinner & overnight at Amaya Hills (4*), Kandy or similar.

Day 9: BANDARAVELA – HORTON PLAINS – BANDARAVELA

Early morning departure for Horton Plains. Train ride (second class) from Bandarawela to Ohia Railway Station. Visit Horton Plains & World's End. (03 – 04 hours plain walk). World's End - Sri Lanka's highest plateau at an altitude of 7,000 feet in the central highlands. Horton Plains National Park, a World Heritage Site perched on the southern edge of the central highlands, midway between Nuwara Eliya and Haputale, consists of montane forests, where the land rises to 2,500 meters above sea level. Depart before dawn by jeep to visit Worlds End before 10 am (mist obscures the view thereafter). This incredible view of the aptly named World's End is considered the best in Sri Lanka. The awesome cliff drops vertically for about 1,000 feet and drops almost as steeply for another 4,000 feet. In the morning a silver crescent of the Indian Ocean circles the horizon about 50 miles to the south. Drive back to Bandarawela. Dinner & overnight at Orient Hotel (3+*), Bandarawela or similar.
Day 10: BANDARAVELA – BOUDALA SAFARI – GIALA

After breakfast depart for Bundala. En route visit Rawana Water Falls. Leaving Nuwara Eliya/Bandarawela behind and enjoying the drive south passing Ella and the Ella Gap which allows for magnificent views of the southern plains of Sri Lanka. Rawana Ella waterfalls are always a great photo stop en route to get some picturesque picture postcard patterns. In the afternoon we embark on a jeep safari to Bundala National Park. Bundala National Park – 250 km from Colombo on the Colombo Tissa road. This was declared a sanctuary on 5.12.1969 and upgraded to a National Park later. Only 24 sq. miles in area. Easily accessible although the wildlife population is limited. This is famous for large flocks of birds, especially migratory flamingos, ducks and grebes, and birds such as pelicans, painted storks, white-necked storks, black-necked storks, cormorants and other waterfowl. Dinner & overnight at Oak Ray Wild (3*), Yala or similar.
Day 11: GIALA – ATHENS
