Messina, founded by the Euboeans in the 8th century BC, is the third largest city in Sicily and the thirteenth largest in Italy. With its amphitheatrical structure and stunning views of the sea, the city captivates every visitor. As you walk through its narrow streets, you will discover the 12th-century cathedral with the Sacred Chapel, which has an impressive bell tower, one of the largest astronomical clocks in the world, as well as many 14th-century mosaics. Other points of interest include the Calapaj Palace, the San Ranieri lighthouse of 1555, the Museum of Modern Art with works by Caravaggio and Antonello da Messina, as well as the Orion and Poseidon fountains, decorated by Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli in 1547 and 1557 respectively. Messina is one of the most popular summer destinations in the Mediterranean, and is an excellent starting point for a trip to Taormina with its unique view of Mount Etna.

Day 8: Civitavecchia, (Rome), Italy

In this area, the emperor Trajan built his summer villa, while Bernini and Michelangelo designed the plans for the impressive fortifications of the port. Our visit to the "Eternal City" is a unique opportunity to discover the wealth of history.
