After breakfast we depart for a full-day excursion to the city founded and baptized by Alexander the Great. Naturally, our day in Alexandria is dedicated to a guided tour of the city. Pompey's Column , the tallest column ever erected outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople , the Catacombs which are the largest Roman cemetery on three levels carved into the rock, the Citadel, the 15th century defensive fortress on the Mediterranean coast and of course, the New Library of Alexandria (if it is open), could not be missing from our tour, laying the foundations of a tour overflowing with Roman and Greek references. Our excursion includes lunch. Return to Cairo.
